When I had to research the rite hospital for my son I found quickly that I was at the mercy of reviews. I decided to document my experience and put a review myself to hopefully help someone. Short story: my 12 year old was fine. He was taken care of and was not turned into a zombie. They only keep people for a week or two so there is no "fixing." It's just a place to stabilize a bad situation. There was a mix up and they gave him an antidepressant with out my consent. But the nurse called me and owned up to it and sincerely apologized. There was great communication otherwise. My son called me every day and the nurses did too. I called any time and spoke to someone on my sons floor every time. He checked out a week later and is fine. He made the comment he is ready to go home but he will miss the other kids. The experience was not terrible and if in the same situation I would take him there again. Long story: When i called to see if they took my insurance they were very informative and understanding. They worked around my schedule to bring him in. We walked in and the person running the front desk was very rude. The check in area looked and felt like a jail. If someone is to the point they are checking in themselves or a loved one to a mental health hospital they should have someone with a little compassion on the frontline. We left and decided not to come back. We headed to my second choice in OKC and about an hour later someone called from Red River and I explained we will not be back as long as that lady is the one we have to deal with. She offered to allow me to make a complaint, I declined. Well i got another call from the coordinator. I explained and she said please come back, apologized for her actions and assured that i will not have to deal with her. We did and we never saw her again. The intake process was fairly simple and the person who helped us was compassionate. I stressed the importance of my son not being medicated or turned into a zombie. I left and I received a call every day from my son, and multiple from the staff every day. They kept me informed and when i called I talked directly to the nurses that were standing rite there usually with my son. He never cried or begged to come home. He was taken care of in there. I went to visit my son and he told me he was given a blue pill every morning. I was able to speak rite to the nurse that minute and it was a weekend. She told me I consented to the medicine. I had not. 2 days later the nurse who said I consented called me to apologize and had mixed up patients. Luckily a low dose anti depressant was all he was given, and that was the one and only thing I would have consented to. When i talked to my son on the phone I could hear a kid screaming "throwing a fit" and I couldn't finish my conversation. The biggest problem for us was the other children my son was exposed to. He came home with 2 less shirts because another kid grabbed him and ripped them. He came home missing a back pack. But he came home himself. He was fine. He saw a lot of things in there. He saw a kid stab myself with a pencil. No child was allowed in anothers room. Each room was large and clean. They could have a room mate of the same gender and within 3 years of each other. My son didn't. When I picked him up there was a woman yelling she came out and said she waited too long she is leaving. And she did. I saw everyone there as desperately needing help, even myself. And I didn't see that as important to the staff. I wish there was more compassion but if I had to do it again I would likely choose them.

I'm not kaleb, that is my husband, but this is his acct. i LOVED my stay at red river. there was a lot of chaos, but that's expected. the staff actually cared about me, and the other patients. One particular woman stood out and that was Miss Jackie. She works on the adult floor. she gave her testimony and it helped so much. she did everything she could to provide each patient with what they needed. Jennifer, also who worked on the adult floor on weekends, who administered the drugs to patients helped me a lot.. i appreciate every single staff member even the cooks, the maintenance, and the house keepers. Thank you red river for turning my life around!
